Black Death

A purely underground A5 metal zine out of Sydney, Australia — and one Malcolm has been writing for since 2008, lending a hand to a fellow traveller in the scene.

Since sometime in 2008, I’ve been giving a helping hand to my metal brother Fabian in Sydney, Australia — writing articles for his A5 zine, Black Death.

It’s a rag that, in its short life, has been steadily establishing itself as a small but significant voice for the metal underground in Sydney, with five issues to its credit so far. My contributions run to festival reviews, scene reports and the occasional album review — the sort of hands-on, paper-and-staples journalism that keeps the real underground breathing.

The original articles live in the zine itself, in a slideshow of scanned pages and as a downloadable PDF on the archived Cool Gool site. For more of the writing and scene work I’ve done over the years, head to the bands & activities overview, or read up on Rancid Soup and my Brutalism reviews.

Words and music, both.

The same ear that reviews the records teaches you to play them. Book a guitar, bass or uke lesson.
