Bass Guitar Lessons
The bass is the low end that holds every band together, in every style of music. I’ll take you from your first groove to fluent, creative playing — beginner to advanced, in London or online worldwide.
The bass guitar is the low end of any band, in any style of music. Traditionally it’s played with the fingers, but as drummers and guitars got louder, bassists learned to pick too — so the bass can be heard, whatever the volume.
I teach bass at every level, working through the patterns most common across contemporary music, with a focus on the ones that matter most in your style of choice. Wherever you want to sit in the mix, we build the groove and the fireworks together.
Lock the groove,
then break it open.
Keeping the groove
Rock-solid time and feel across every style of music.
Playing with the drummer
Understand and complement the kit so the rhythm section breathes as one.
Patterns by style
The go-to lines for pop, rock and beyond — and how to build your own.
Improvisation
Say something of your own while still holding the song’s groove.
Accompaniment
How to sit under a track and lift it, in any genre.
Plectrum & fingerstyle
Knowing when each one gets you the right tone.
Songs & theory
Learn the songs you love and the theory behind them, so you can add your own flairs and make them sound your own, and still awesome, if not more.
Reading music, TAB & chord charts
As much notation as you want — always taught the practical way.
New to the bass?
We start with some basic patterns in pop and rock styles, getting your timing and your fingers working together, then move on to more elaborate techniques and timings across other genres as you grow. No bass yet? No problem — I can point you at the right first instrument before we begin.
Already play?
My lessons can fill in the basics you may have missed over the years, or brush up techniques that have gone rusty. Play well but don’t quite understand what you’re playing? I’ll teach you to crack the code — so you start putting your own bass lines together, faster.
