Rancid Soup

Rancid Soup Productions, 1990–1998 — Malta’s first ever printed underground zine, which grew into a radio show and a music-event organisation, all under one gloriously grim moniker.

Founded 1990 2 printed issues DJ NecroGool on the radio

Conceived as Malta’s first ever printed underground zine back in the early 90s, Rancid Soup later grew into a radio show and a music-event organisation — so I capped the whole lot under one moniker: Rancid Soup Productions.

The zine eventually dissolved. Blame my involvement with Bisoul Promotions, staying busy as a musician, and — most of all — the arrival of the e-zine. But here’s the memoir, in the form of some pages from the zine; in time I’m hoping to convert all the old radio shows to stream online too.

Since moving to London I’ve kept track of the bands featured back then — and anything that stirs my fancy in today’s rather different underground — over on Rancid Soup’s Facebook page. Follow it for a steady stream of good music recommendations.
